- %H1%DISCSCAT3
-
- A program for the Archimedes to Database discs and their contents.
-
- %JR%Load and Run this Basic program. The program is then in Memory and you
- may (or need not) remove the disc containing 'Discscat3'.
-
- %JR%The first prompt is to insert the disc (any drive) on which you wish
- %JL%to put the catalogue file. The file will be in Pipedream format and
- %JR%you may wish this disc to be one of your Pipedream Database series.
- %JL%You will then be asked to Enter the full path name of the file. You
- %JR%will be advised of the number of entries already in your file if it is
- not a new one, otherwise it will show zero entries.
-
- %JR%The second prompt is to insert the Source disc (this may be into any
- %JL%drive) and enter the drive number. You then have the option of
- %JR%entering temporarily the Operating System should you wish to,
- %JL%otherwise press 'Space' and the Source disc catalogue will scroll on
- %JR%the screen and will be catalogued in the same form onto your catalogue
- %JL%file. The screen will show for a couple of seconds the number of files
- on the source disc and disc space free.
-
- %JR%The screen will revert to the second prompt as above. You may then
- %JR%replace your source disc with another and repeat this process as often
- as memory will allow. At any stage you can include your hard disc.
-
- %JR%After your last disc, (at the second prompt) pressing escape will exit
- %JR%the program and advise you the number of records on your record disc
- and remind you how to transfer the information to a Pipedream Window.

- %H1%NOTES
-
- %JR%It was difficult to decide how to record the path name. The full path
- %JL%name would take too many characters out of the database line length. I
- %JR%decided to record the first two characters of each directory in the
- %JL%object path as this would allow the enquirer in most cases to follow
- %JR%the path to a file. The alternative was to record Directory level but
- this could be less positive.
-
- %JR%After putting the file record into a Pipedream window, what then? I
- %JR%would use column F possibly for reference code letters to assist
- %JR%sorting, then column G for a brief description of the file. In mode 16
- %JR%this gives nearly 50 characters for description which should be enough
- to remind you what the file was about!
